Gus Macker 2019: Green Eggs and Slams

In 1974, Scott McNeal and a few friends gathered in his parent’s driveway in Lowell, MI, threw in a couple dollars for the winning team, and kicked off the basketball tournament they had been planning. Little did they know that this driveway tournament would continue to grow year by year until there were hundreds of teams playing up and down their street. Fast forward 46 years and we are hosting Gus Macker: Green Eggs and Slams National Basketball Tournament at Central Michigan University.

Every fall the Association of Recreation and Event Professionals (AREP), provides the opportunity for their members to volunteer at Hob Nobble Gobble: a black-tie fundraiser for The Parade Company hosted by Ford Field in Detroit, MI. This year I got the chance to attend!

They say college is the best years of your life, and I 100% agree. I am just finishing up my freshman year at Central Michigan University. It is so hard to believe that a whole school year has already gone by so quickly, I am SO not ready to leave. The impact that the people I have met at Central have had on my life in the past 9 months is unlike any other friendships I have made before and I feel so blessed to be able to return here, my second home, at the end of summer. Moving out and living on my own has taught me so many valuable life lessons; here are the most important things I have learned in the last 32 weeks at CMU.

Psych 100(Introduction to Psychology) is another class that was part of our LAS protocol for our first semester of freshman year. I had taken two psychology classes in high school and was very excited to be able to take another one coming into college.
